Soul Summer

“One must maintain a little bit of summer, even in the middle of winter.” (Henry David Thoreau)

In the act of slowing down for late summer, I am very much in preparation mode and writing this serves as a reminder that during the darker days there is always light even if only a little. I very much struggle in the winter when we have darker and shorter days, and probably a lot of people can relate to this, but rather than pre-empting how I’m going to be or how I may feel it’s much better focusing on the now. It is staying in the now that will ultimately serve us. It it what will help us grow and keep to the sun as we move through the seasons one by one and go right back to the beginning.

It has been a year since I started a course called Naturopathic Nutrition and I am grateful for the healing it has brought me. After many years of personal development it never ceases to amaze me what else is out there that will serve my soul evolution. I felt like this course was a step up in weaving the other pieces together and being able to take charge of my health again. Sometimes when things happen in life or we get ill, it can seem hopeless. When the medical profession says there is no cure that is not the end. In fact, no matter what happens there is always something you can do to help yourself even if it’s changing your mindset to start off with to see what is possible and what you can change. There will always be factors out of our control in life but that doesn’t take away who you are or your sense of spirit. It can make all the difference in the world and your healing matters. It is the best gift you can give to Life.

I love what I am doing now and what I am learning. It makes me feel like every day is summer. As always it comes back to food with me and it brings me such joy. I have loved food all my life and this for certain will not change. I love and appreciate food more than ever before because of my experiences. Earth Blossom

Nurture your soul with love’s blossom

The 1st August brought not only a New moon but a new season within the Chinese 5 Elements system. It is late summer and it is all about the Earth. It is the perfect time to ground ourselves in who we are and who we are being. It is time to reflect and bring into fruition all the we have worked for in the year so far and prepare for the latter seasons of the year. I always find I want to slow down when there is a seasonal change and I am noticing that more and more as I tune into the natural cycles of life that we have available to us in any given moment. I can’t say that I’m always good at slowing down and life sometimes intervenes (a lot) to get me do so.

When I do eventually slow down enough I love seeing new possibilities and a chance to hope and dream new dreams or see the bigger vision I may already hold. I know that during this time of the year when there is plenty of light, I love the charge that it gives me to be creative and run with it when I can. It’s funny because exactly 5 years ago my old self was climbing Mount Kilimanjaro at this very moment. I am in such awe of that woman who had the courage to do that. It was a big ask of my old self and I didn’t allow any fears to stop me from doing it regardless of the outcome. Now 5 years on, I want to be the opposite and take my time without over exerting myself or put my body through anything taxing. I find myself wanting to be and I am very ok with that. I naturally want to take my time and this seems to be my current rhythm. I think it comes down to knowing what we need and knowing the difference between making excuses or being authentic. It’s really important to reach into that place of knowing to find out what is real.

I can tell you from my experience of climbing Kilimanjaro, it taught me the power of going slow. Slow and steady always wins the race they say and this is so true. The only way to climb was step by step at the slowest possible pace. Sometimes it can feel like you are not going nowhere but really you are. You have to let go and breathe as much as you can. Breathe deeply and let it all plan out as it needs to. Let yourself reflect and be honest in the places within you that need nurturing or where you need to slow down. I promise with that you will find love’s blossom which is YOU.
