Song of the Heart

We are One.
The entire Universe lives within us.

I was very fortunate to be part of a special event called Generation Hope which saw 6000 youth coming together in three different cities, celebrating the philosophy of Nichiren Buddhism and giving hope to so many.  It took me right to the beginning and where I started 8 years ago in meeting this practice and how it has changed my life for the better. Part of me had forgotten as life continues to challenge me and it was great to re-ignite that life-force inside to bring the light back into my life. Sometimes in life we know the answers and what we need to do but it takes others to remind us of our own light. It is through support and interconnectedness to everyone and everything around us we can see the real truth and beauty of life.

I was very inspired to hear so many individual experiences of how Buddhism has helped changed their lives in positive ways. To have a positive philosophy provides a foundation in which we can view experiences in our lives so differently and to see challenges as opportunities for growth and healing. Nothing is outside of ourselves and our environment and the people around us are a direct reflection of us. This can be a concept that is hard to digest at first but when you look beneath the surface, there is so much strength and power that comes from it. I know it taught me to take accountability and responsibility for my own life. Nobody else could live it for me or do the work for me. It all started with me.

“When we change, the world changes. The key to all change is in our inner transformation – a change of our hearts and minds. This is human revolution. We all have the power to change. When we realise this truth, we can bring forth that power anywhere, anytime, and in any situation.” (Daisaku Ikeda)

With so much going on in the world right now it can seem like we can’t do anything about it but the truth is everyone can make a difference. It starts with our own inner transformation in a journey of forgiveness, love, patience, compassion and courage to live fully and express who we really are. It is about speaking up and paying attention to the things that really matter. It is about never giving up and opening our hearts in creating a vision for a better world. Every individual has the capacity for greatness in their own unique way and any change made has a ripple effect throughout the entire cosmos.

“No matter what our personal circumstances may be, if we ourselves become the source of light, then there will be no darkness in the world.” (Daisaku Ikeda)

With the decision to choose hope and to sing the song in our hearts, we can overcome anything. We can dance with life and move to the rhythm of joyous expression. We can change the world.

Treasures of the Heart

“More valuable than treasures in a storehouse are the treasures of the body,
and the treasures of the heart are the most valuable of all.”
(Nichiren Daishonin)

As a practitioner of Nichiren Buddhism, I love this quote. It teaches that no matter what we have in terms of our material possessions and what is happening in our bodies when it comes to our health, there is one thing that can never be taken away from us and that is who we are. What is important is living with a heart of faith and believing in something bigger than ourselves. We all have that power to create a life of value and to be able to turn karma into mission for the good of all. We all have something to give always.

Since returning from India last month, I have felt a huge energetic shift which has caused my life to turn upside down or so it may seem. There are moments where I felt I was entering into another dark night of the soul but with determination and faith in my Buddhist practice I have this deep knowing that everything will be ok. Right now I am observing my life with kindness and compassion as part of my daily practice. Sometimes it is easy to forget who we are and how far we have come when life throws us a curveball.

I see my circumstances as neither good nor bad. They are opportunities to awaken the spirit and life-force within. The spiritual path is not always easy but it is so worth it. It allows a deeper connection to the Universe and brings new levels of awareness to life itself. It brings a new dimension in which we can feel empowered as people. Life is a precious gift and the gratitude I feel inside my heart fills me with aliveness. There are many blessings all around us if we pay close enough attention. There is value in simplicity that brings wholeness to each experience. There is joy beneath the sorrow, calm amidst the stormy seas and love inside your fears. Love always wins and this is the greatest treasure of all.

If you are reading this and also experiencing energetic shifts as the world vibrates at a higher frequency, know that that there is a reason for everything and always have faith in what will be. You Are The One.

Love and blessings,

Treasures of Hope…

“When we possess the treasure of hope,
it gives rise to other treasures, too.
Hope draws forth our inner potential and
strength. Hope is a magic weapon that enables
us to make our dreams come true.”
(Daisaku Ikeda)

I am celebrating a very special anniversary today. It was six years ago today that I received my Gohonzon, a scroll in Nichiren Buddhism to which you chant the very powerful mantra Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo. This was a very significant event which was the catalyst in helping me to realise my own inner potential and life-force. At the time I received the Gohonzon, I was in such a different space to what I am today. I have done things and overcome so much that would have been unimaginable to me six years ago. I have travelled to places and beyond which has forever changed me. I have met amazing souls who I am proud to call family. I have lost and gained. I have failed and succeeded. I have feared… and loved even more as a result.

There is so much to life and it started from that day I received my Gohonzon. It was the day I made a commitment to myself and to take responsibility to change my life. I had no idea it would change as much as it has and I have such a deep gratitude for what life has given me. It’s more than anything money can buy (although that is always nice of course). It is those treasures we have inside of ourselves, that is the real gold. It is what truly matters and what we have to give.

Emptied clean, I have the opportunity to live in a new way… a way that is more authentic, loving and worthy in every way. There is hope on the horizon. Sure there will always be ups and downs but nothing can ever take away what is real. Every day we are all alive is a gift and as long as we have hope, we have everything.

“Everything is born from hope.”
(Daisaku Ikeda)

In light and love,
